Arrive on time, or — even better — a few minutes early. Because our consultants often have other appointments scheduled, being on time helps you and the person after you get the most out of your consultations. Bring a copy of the project. You do not need a full draft in order to schedule a consultation. Our consultants are eager to help you at any stage of a writing project. If you do have a draft, be prepared to read it out loud. Reading aloud helps you identify areas needing revision that you might not notice when you are reading silently to yourself. Plan to work on no more than 5 pages of writing per consultation session. 45-minute consultations that address smaller excerpts of writing are likely to be more useful than longer sessions. If you are working on a longer paper, we encourage you to sign up for multiple appointments.Get excited to learn something new! Writing consultants don’t “correct” or “proofread” your papers; rather, they teach you strategies and skills that will help you become a better writer. Each time you visit a consultant, you will learn things that can help you improve upon your work as a writer.
